Marathon fanart: The Pfhor by juzo-kun Marathon fanart: The Pfhor by juzo-kun
Some of Marathon bad guys. From left to right: a Fighter, a Hunter and an Enforcer. As my usual, I tweaked a lot on the original design. I made the backgrounds using some of the game wall textures as reference.

I think I gave the Hunter too much of a human shape (the guy under that armor is supposed to be a sort of insect like the other two). In the game, the Enforcer is the one that kindly lends you his weapon, if sufficiently persuaded. Useful persuasion means in this case are fists and every non-explosive weapon.

I don't know why but I always figured Enforcers as females. Which is probably senseless, because the Phfor are a sort of aliens bug and as far as I know gender might not apply in the same way as humans. Or maybe they are intended to be similar to bees or ants... making all the combatant units technically female, hehe.

...I'm on a Marathon binge, lately. I suspect that installing Marathon:Rubicon and managing to get stuck in nearly every switch-point level has something to do with this. :paranoid:

Characters: 2B pencil for sketch and lineart, Photoshop coloring.
Background: Photoshop layer effects and patterns overuse.

[If you don't know Marathon and are curious of the reference, here is the page -> [link] (Italian text, but nearly all the characters name are in English)]

I wish they'd remake the Marathons. And not Aleph One, I mean a complete 3d remake. It'd love to see how the Phor look like with modern graphics, and all the guns.
Anyways, awesome pic man!

To me the pixel-2.5D look is part of the charm :D But anyway, I'd like too seeing it made in a slightly more modern engine... keyword being -slightly-, something like the Unreal/Unreal Tournament and such. I'm one of those old curmudgeons that thinks too much realism kills the experience, heh!

(If I recall correctly someone made exactly that... Marathon in Unreal Tournament engine. I should look more into that.)

It is quite a nice feeling. A lot of more recent games focus far too much in visuals and not enough on the danged story, which is why I love the Marathon trilogy so much-The ridiculously complex story. Actually, yes you're right, some group is making Marathon with that engine, and calling it Marathon Resurrection. Although in that, I think the ship should be grey, not brown.

Also, the assault rifle's model kinda sucks. They replaced the grenade wheel with a magazine!

I might take advantage of some discount and buy a copy of the Unreal set to try it... after I managed to be sure it's possible to make it run under OSX or Linux, I mean.

Got the series. Don't know why they haven't remade the series yet. Hate todays shooters, theres no puzzling objectives. Nice pic. Don't know if I commented on this.
