March.

Journal Entry: Sun Mar 30, 2008, 2:57 AM
So tired. And sleepy. Sleeeeepy. Must be a spring thing, or maybe not. I had a bit of stress lately.

[Insert same old rant about time and such and blah blah.]

Also, I think I've beaten all the records in delay of reply. All the notes and mail, usually I read them and take some day to reply. Sometimes work and such get in and I find myself after a month with many unanswered messages. ^^;

argh, daylight saving time!

Silent.

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 21, 2008, 12:14 PM
Sorry if I'm so silent ^^;
Inspiration-wise, I feel quite... meh.

Yesterday I took again a game I left unfinished from quite some time, to see if I could relax a bit. Uru: ages beyond Myst (the To D'ni expansion set). In this, right after logging into one of the available Ages I can see a screen showing my nickname and the time of every login. Most recent ones: yesterday and today. The one before these: two years and two months ago. For a very large value of "quite some time"...

Hmm. I must find the notes. I don't remember anything of the solved puzzles so far.

...also, I must not think at a crossover between a world which main premise is a network of tightly bound parallel universes and a character that can travel through time and dimensions, either of which carry a overall "steampunk" visual allure, and neither of which I know well enough to attempt such a thing.

February.

Eeeek!
February, already? :O

[This journal is giving me a sense of deja-vu. Probably because it's the fifth or sixth time I wrote an entry like this.]

Tagged!

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 2, 2008, 7:00 AM
~ClaudiaCangini tagged me!

And since I love babbling incessantly about myself... I thought of eight things about art, fandom and computer related things.

1) While drawing, I keep the pencil in a strange way. Hmm... let's see if I can explain. I share the weight and the drive on the pen with middle finger other that the forefinger. I could draw and write pointing the forefinger away -- either if a bit of more difficultly (and quite silly looking...)

2) I began to use a tablet rather early... I use the tablet for everyday operations, to the point that when I have to use a mouse I'm nearly stuck. Only thing I use a mouse for: gaming. [I tried to go through Marathon and AvsP with the tablet. It was a fun session but the risk of destroying the pen was quite high.]

3) While kind of slow staying up-to date with technology (I'm always a couple of versions late either with hardware and with operating systems) I always kept my monitor up-to date. I'm highly sensitive to CRT screen flickering, anything below 80hz make me go dizzy with a big, nasty headache. I can't view standard TV monitors and even neon lights give me problems if they're old and worn out. That made me one of the first buyers of an LCD screen when these were put on market. I spent an insane amount of money -_-;

4) I never use spaces in file naming, even if it's feasible from, like, Windows95. I can't stand a space in a name file... I don't know why. But now I'm working in web design, this weird quirk became useful.

5) Around five/six years ago my style changed, not in the look (which is the same pseudo-manga thing) rather than in execution. That's because a thyroid problem left me with slightly shaky hands. I had to leave the overall detailed style I used [an example here] to have and go through a lot of roundabouts to make my lines appear steady. Also, I discovered colours -- quite late, I have to admit. I don't use pens anymore, all my lineart is done with a 2B pencil and I work on very large files to compensate. This is also a reason I'm wary about making prints of my works: the lines that appear clean on a low-resolution image show all their imperfections in high-res ^^; [an example here, check the detail on VP's profile...]

6) I can became obsessed on interested in a fiction character starting with only a tiny little tidbit. It may be the voice I imagine for him/her/it [if the source is a book or a comic or I don't have the way to listen to the real voice actor], it may be a single fact in the character background or history, or a shot that recalled me some other character I know very well or I created. Happened with Vector Prime, and going to happen with TF:Animated Ratchet, I fear ^^;

7) Consequence of above, when I'm interested in a character I tend to draw him a lot. But I also tend to draw a personal interpretation of what I understood about the character which often ends to be not coherent at all with the character as it is in the original comic/book/series. Oops ^^;

8) My main fandoms are Leiji Matsumoto's works (especially Yamato, GE999 and Galaxy Railways), Space 1999, Marathon and Alien/Predator -- but I like many many other authors and works, too many to list here!

...that was quite a rambling :o

January.

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 19, 2008, 2:04 AM
EDIT 24 Jan 2008

happy birthday to meeeee! :giggle:

------

Heh, I switched on the other computer - the Windows one - after I don't know how many time. This time I didn't pay attention to the antivirus software scream of rage, but simply downloaded the updates and installed them.

I don't connect that computer at internet anymore, too much a hassle. It's quite a while I don't patch Windows 2000, so connecting at internet would be really harmful for it. I keep the antivirus on it - uploaded via modules downloaded from the Mac and transferred via USB key. Yes, I have the backup of the entire system, but why risk if I can avoid?

I also updated Apophysis and discovered the "3D hack" version of it. If you're into fractal art and don't know of this version, it's worthy to take a look.

On the other hand, I'm feeling kinda... meh. Apathetic. Last year drained me, physically and mentally. I'm always sleepy...

EDIT: because I really shouldn't write journals when I'm tired ^^;
